Rishi Sunak was born on 12 May 1980 in Southampton to Hindu parents Yashveer and Usha Sunak of Punjabi Indian origin, African descent. He is the eldest of three siblings.

Rishi Sunak was elected to the House of Commons for Richmond in North Yorkshire in the 2015 general election, succeeding William Hague.

He previously served as Chancellor of the Exchequer from 2020 to 2022 and as Chief Secretary of the Treasury from 2019 to 2020.

 He has been the Member of Parliament for Richmond since 2015. 

Sunak worked as an analyst for investment bank Goldman Sachs between 2001 and 2004.

He then worked for the hedge fund management firm Children's Investment Fund Management, becoming a partner in September 2006.
